10 Easy Steps for Setting up Email Campaigns with Mailchimp

Using Mailchimp for Email Marketing

Email marketing is vital to businesses to build their customer base.  Here are 10 easy steps for setting up Mailchimp Email Campaigns.

10 Tips for Mailchimp Email Marketing Success

  1. If you already have a list of email addresses that are active then use them for your Mailchimp campaigns. Mailchimp is free for up to 2,000 subscribers and 12,000 emails per month.
  2. To get email addresses from customers or prospective customers you will need to offer them something in return. This could be a discount coupon, an article or an e-book that they would be interested in.
  3. You will need to include a call to action that will get your customers to give you their email address. This could be “Get Your 20% discount Voucher for …… today.”  The customer will be directed to the sign up page.
  4. The sign up page should get their First Name, Surname and email address. If you ask for any more information, they may drop off the page.
  5. After you have got 200 plus email addresses, you can get started with your email marketing campaigns. These email addresses can be imported into Mailchimp or you can type in each email address and name manually.
  6. Be aware that customers may opt out of email campaigns anytime.  It is advisable not to sign them back in but to keep them on Mailchimp as opted out so that they are not re-entered. Mailchimp gives your customers an option to opt out as this is a legal requirement in Australia.
  7. Think about how often your customers would purchase from you. If you have high value items and they don’t purchase too often, then you could send a monthly email.  If your customers come to you on a weekly basis, then you would send them a weekly email.
  8. Ensure your email content is interesting and is directed at your customers. They don’t want to hear your life story.  They want you to solve their problems.  It is not about you or your business, it is about them.
  9. Ensure you include a call to action in your emails such as “Contact Us Today”.  Include a link to your website or Facebook page so that they can get more information.
  10. After you have launched your Campaign, you can see the response rate.  You will know how many people have read it, how many have clicked through to your website or Facebook page and how many have opted out.
